ECB’s Constancio: `We will see what happens' in Italy - Spiegel

In a pre-release seen by Reuters, the European Central Bank (ECB) outgoing Vice-President Vitor Constancio was quoted in a Spiegel magazine interview, as saying that any intervention by the ECB to help Italy in the event of liquidity problems must “serve the fulfillment of our mandate” and follow “certain conditions”.

When asked if the central bank would intervene in the case of an emergency and rescue Italy from an insolvency, Constancio noted: “Italy knows the rules. They might want to read them again.”
